rustled from sleep by a force unknown
darkness surrounds, confusion abounds
in the hazy half awake, half asleep
where is the blessing in the small hours?
the mind begins to do gymnastics of thought-
reality and dreams co-mingled in the darkness
worries spin uncontrolled, creating webs that ensnare
breath quickens, eyes search, thoughts run boundless
in the hazy half awake, half asleep
where is the blessing in the small hours?
breath in, breath out
God are you there?
breath in, breath out
Worry blossoms into prayer
darkness slips from chaos to comfort
Spirit breaths in, breaths out
worries given wings, heartbeat slows with the rhythm of prayer
be comfort, be strength, protect, and heal
in the hazy half awake, half asleep
where is the blessing in the small hours?
in the gentle return to spirit-held slumber
worry now nestled in prayer
This is the blessing of the small hours
